Space Gauntlet, Predictions and level reviews! | DD/MM/YY

It's with no doubt that creator contests bring out some of the best works from all corners of the community and this time is no exception. The current roster of levels relased in time for the guantlet contains some of the most impresive feats of decoration I have ever seen in the game, and just before the results come out I want to share three of my favorites enteries!

"HideOut" by BrainETR

Hideout was the first level which really caught my attention for this contest. Almost immediatly the level became one of if not my faovrite release of the year so far. It's very rare that I feel like the decoration of a level is a perfect representation of the song(s) used, the simmiarly named song 'hideout' by Trippple is such a fun and bouncy song to listen too that I couldn't imagine a better way to give off these feelings than the almost oversaturated world HideOut provides us. The level is at no point without colour and movement, every tiny detail and choice feels purposfull and you can feell the 300+ hours BrainETR as spent perfecting this masterpiece.

An incredible art direction and vision for a level can go a long way, the entire journey you get taken on feel like one coheasive world you can explorem. It's not uncommon to find that longer levels often fall into the trap of having a few exceptional parts and a few mediocure in comparion. (It's only natural this happens btw!) but it can be aboided with carefull planning and an incredible attention to detail.

While it would be almost impossible for me to decide on what is my favorite part as they all offer so much charm and each have their unique identity, an aspect of the level which really caught my eye on my first watchthrough was the intermission pixel styled parts. I just absolutely adore them and how they both give the level intermission points aswell as give the player playing the level a real chance to catch their breath and take a short break! It's very easy to find in levels, especially longer ones that you start to get tired and your skill and consistansy dwindeles with level length. With this being a potential guantlet level the gameplay and balancing is perfect in my oppinion for a level which becomes part of the 'base' game / main experience; too be see by millions of people if it makes it in.

It would be such a shame to me if "HideOut" fails to make it into either of the two currently planned guantlets. It's the perfect embodyment of what a level should be.

hey guys, blog post cancelled. just saw the results and hideout failed to place anywhere :/
